Natalie Paetau
First Place Recipient: Natalie Fahsen Paetau, Guatemala, Georgetown - A former research director of FUNDEGUA in Guatemala, Natalie convened a patient safety symposium with Guatemala Ministry of Health and Duke University and created a STEM program for 400 Guatemalan students.
Honorary Award: Reynaldo Pena, El Salvador, Georgia Tech - Reynaldo was an intern at an agricultural lender in El Salvador, where he saw the exorbitant rates charged to small farmers. He teamed up with Amherst College to teach Salvadoran farmers more efficient farming and cooking techniques and has continued to work in microlending. He wants to use Data Analytics to start a social enterprise to provide lower-cost, risk-based loans to small farmers in El Salvador.
Honorary Award: Cindy Marin, Nicaragua, Hult International Business School - Cindy co-founded a business in Nicaragua called Arte Natural, which involves 10 families in making handmade, sustainable personal care products. Cindy is hoping to use her International Marketing degree to grow and scale the business.
